Not so funny

My expectation of David Sedaris, whom I had never seen live before, was based on a book of his that a friend had recommended and on reading some of his New Yorker essays. I was disappointed when he began his show by stating that he would read some of his previously published work. The evening program seemed put together, as he admitted, to merely give him a warm winter vacation. The first time that he stated that he is rich was funny but by the fourth time I was beginning to feel duped into supporting his self-absorbed lifestyle. Recounting his FitBit numbers was as boring as hearing it from anyone and his sad and prolonged imitations of his aging father literally put us to sleep. Sedaris can be very funny in print but I doubt I’ll be able to read him in the future without hearing his egotistical monotone in my head.
